ACTIVE LIFESTYLE

We want our customers to enjoy their new homes, but feel it’s good to get out from time to time. In our Harlan Ranch master-planned community, for example, you’ll find eleven unique parks, plenty of grassy areas, and miles of walking trails connecting it all. Add in all the activities available at the new amenity-loaded recreation complex, and you’ll find countless opportunities to get to know your neighbors a little better. Some of the exciting activities offered include, but are not limited to: Yoga in the Park, daily access to the junior Olympic-sized pool, walking and cycling clubs and outdoor entertainment at the amphitheatre.

Harlan Ranch was developed based on four main principals of sustainability: Economic, Social, Environmental and Physical.

Economic

  • Increased density relieves the pressure of prematurely encroaching on precious agricultural land
  • Provides a balance between jobs and housing by supporting local and adjacent employment centers planned for the Northeast Urban Center
  • Integrates flexible spaces like live/work through the commercial village activity center
  • Provides a variety of residential product types for all economic levels within the community

Social

  • Community Recreation Complex features a children’s play areas, amphitheatre, barbecue areas and junior Olympic-sized pool
  • Community event programs bring residents together in the many parks and along the trails
  • Bud Rank Elementary School at heart of community encourages neighbors and community to connect to one another
  • Vast network of neighborhood-level parks, trails and pathways encourage walkability and connectivity between neighborhoods

Environmental

  • Reduces the vehicular traffic encouraging walkability through pedestrian-friendly designed streetscapes and connectivity through neighborhoods
  • Maximizes natural solar orientation of streets and lots for energy-efficiency
  • Utilizes reclaimed water at parks and green belts

Physical

  • Clusters high density housing designed to create aesthetically pleasing walking environments and streetscapes
  • Integrates outdoor porch and patio spaces to bring interaction, security and safety to the parks and streets

THIRD-PARTY INSPECTIONS

Sometimes improving efficiency is simply a matter of being thorough. Studies indicate that 10-30% of heated or cooled air in the average home is lost through duct leaks. Ducts in homes built by Wathen-Castanos, Inc. undergo careful testing. And when the building is complete, Wathen-Castanos, Inc. brings in independent inspectors to certify performance.
